Hello Everyone!
I have so much to say about the season finale of Lost that I could spend weeks writing my review for this episode. Unfortunately, although it definitely won't take me weeks, my review will be a bit late for this episode.
I would like to make a quick statement about the apparrant death of my favorite character outside of Sawyer, Juliet Burke. Darlton, you have until August when you start filming the last season of Lost. Please pay attention to the fans and the message boards and make sure Juliet is a part of season six and the last season of Lost. Why must you always kill off the most interesting and exciting female characters to watch?

Follow The Leader - Episode 15
My Weekly Review – Follow The Leader (Episode 15)
I have two words for tonights episode, absolutely incredible! It was obvious that this episode was meant to set up the final two episodes of the season, but I am okay with that. These sort of set up episodes are often my favorite kind. They are the type of episodes that keep me at the edge of my seat and leave me wanting more.
The episode toggled back and forth between 1977 and 2007. With that in mind, my review will be split up between the two time periods to make it easier on myself.
1977
Take Me To Your Bomb
Follow The Leader started right where The Variable left off. Daniel has just been shot by Eloise, and Kate and Jack are in the jungle watching in disbelief. They decide to run and as they do, Widmore rides up on his horse and captures the two of them, beating Jack up a little in the process.

Widmore approaches the camp with Jack and Kate in tow and asks, “What happened?” when he sees Faraday lying on the ground dead. Richard replies, “This man walked into camp and put a gun to my head and Eloise, (hesitates briefly) reacted.”

This was an interesting choice of words to me. It is thought by some that Jack reacts before thinking as well. I wonder if Eloise “reacting” to this situation, is what led to her being banned from or leaving the island. Ben told Widmore that he was being banished from the island for having a child with an outsider. Eloise is the woman he had the child with and she use to lead the others. Based on this information, I believe she was banished from the island and perhaps it was for “reacting” one too many times.
Eloise has Kate and Jack taken to her tent and while they wait to be interrogated, they discuss the pros and cons of finishing the job that Faraday set out to do.
Jack – Everyone we lost since we got here, they’d all be alive.
Kate – And what about us? We just go on living our life because we never met?
Jack – All the misery that we’ve been through, would just wipe it clean. Never happen.
Kate – (angrily) It was not all misery.
Jack – Enough of it was.

Well, it would appear as if anything good Jack ever had with Kate could never outweigh all of the bad things that have happened to him. Jack saying this clearly shocked Kate. Although I like Kate, I can’t help but wonder if she doesn’t support Jack’s decision because it would mean she would end up in jail for killing Wayne. She can’t go back to LA now either, because she has violated her probation and Aaron is now with grandma anyway. It would make sense that she opposes Jack’s views.
Eloise enters the tent and demands answers to her questions. Join the club lady. She questions Jack about Faraday and his plans to detonate the hydrogen bomb, which she read in Faraday’s journal. She has also noticed the inscription inside of the journal that is in her handwriting, but she does not remember writing it.

Eloise – How is this my handwriting if I don’t remember writing it?
Jack – Because you haven’t written it yet. I know this is hard to understand, but what you just did, it was an accident. And I think there is a way for you to take it all back.
Eloise – (to Kate) Does he know what he’s talking about?
Kate – He thinks he does.
That answer seems to suffice Eloise because she instantly decides to help them detonate the bomb and finish what Faraday set out to do so that she can stop herself from killing him in the future. Kate is not happy about any of this, but goes along with Jack anyway.
Back at the DI barracks, Sawyer and Juliet are in the custody of Radzinsky, Phil and Horace. Sawyer and Juliet are each tied to a chair and Radzinsky is trying to beat answers out of Sawyer. Beat all you want Radz, Sawyer has endured much more and by far more experienced hands than yours without talking.

Having seen the video of Kate and Sawyer taking Ben into hostile territory, Radzinsky wants to know where she is and Sawyer refuses to tell so Radzinsky continues to beat him. Horace tries to stop him and Radzinsky takes him out of command. What? What gives him the right to appoint himself the leader? Is there not some chain of command that they have to follow? Why can’t Horace just throw him out of the room? As I said in my review for He’s Our You, and my feelings are still the same, I liked him better when he was still a stain.
Phil Makes The Biggest Mistake Of His Life
Radzinsky threatens to kill Sawyer if he doesn’t talk and Juliet, unable to hold back any longer begs Stuart to please stop. Sawyer, who is lying on the floor covered in blood and still tied to the chair says to Juliet..”Juliet, don’t. Whatever you tell em, they ain’t gonna believe you. It’s only gonna get more people hurt. Even though the 06 came back and destroyed their happy life, Sawyer still cares about them and is willing to endure torture to keep them safe. Of course, one could argue that he is just keeping Kate safe, but I wouldn’t be one of them.

Horace decides to its time to try and exert his authority and says, “Beating him is pointless okay. He’s not gonna talk. At this point, that rotten Phil steps in and claims that he knows how to make Sawyer talk. With that, he turns suddenly and sucker punches Juliet right in the mouth. OMG! I wanted to kill him right then and there. How dare he? I thought Sawyer might explode out of his ropes when he roared at Phil, “You son of a *****! You’re dead man. I’m gonna kill you. You are a walking dead man Phil. I hope Sawyer gets to meet up with you again. You are going to rue the day!

Pop Quiz Hotshot
While Sawyer contemplates ways to kill Phil, we see Hugo, guitar case in hand, running through the DI barracks towards the jungle. Go Hurley go! But wait, Hurley is not alone, he is being followed by Pierre Chang. Hurley meets up with Jin and Miles at the edge of the jungle and Pierre follows. Pierre questions Hurley about their being from the future and the conversation went like this…
Chang – Your friend Faraday says that you’re from the future. I need to know if he was telling the truth.
Hurley – Dude that’s ridiculous.
Chang – What year were you born? What year?
Hurley – Uh, 1931
Chang – You’re 46?
Hurley – Yah. Yes I am.
Chang – So you fought in the Korean war?
Hurley – Theres no such thing.
Chang – Who is the president of the United States?
Hurley – Alright dude. I’m from the future. Sorry. .

Hurley is so freakin funny. He tries so hard and then he is just so nonchalant about it after being busted. Sorry. Miles ends up telling his dad what Faraday knew and what he planned to do. The issues that Miles had with his dad were created by himself. He was the reason that his father sent him away as a baby. That was a nice twist within this story.
Miles is able to convince Chang who heads out to find Horace. Chang interrupts Sawyer’s beating to tell them all that they must evacuate the island immediately. Radzinsky, of course, says no and Sawyer decides to talk. He tells them that Pierre is right and if they put him and Jules on the sub, he will tell them everything. Radzinsky demands he draw a map to the hostiles camp and what is done is done. I know some people would like to argue that Sawyer once again only thought about himself, but I disagree. Sawyer wanted nothing more than to protect everyone or he wouldn’t have gone through what he just went through. Sawyer changed his mind when Phil punched Juliet. I believe he made a choice between Juliet and everyone else and he chose Juliet. You can’t fault the guy for that.
The Foundation On Which Dharma Was Built
Meanwhile, Kate, Jack, Alpert and Eloise arrive at a fresh water pond and Eloise tells them they must swim under it to get to the tunnels where the bomb is buried. It is at this point that Kate makes her decision to go back. She is still not convinced that Jack knows what he is talking about and she is afraid he is going to kill them all. As she begins to walk away, the others draw their guns and threaten to shoot if she leaves. She continues to walk away and a shot is fired. Kate’s eyes open wide and she looks down at her chest. Psyche! Sorry all you Kate haters, but Kate has not been shot. Sayid suddenly appears from the bushes looking all proud of himself. He has shot the other who had their gun aimed at Kate. I honestly believed for that moment that they had killed Kate. I was speechless.

After listening to Jack talk about destiny, Kate leaves telling Jack, “I’m going back to find the rest of our people because if I can’t stop you, maybe they can.” Knowing she could be killed by the DI if she got caught, Jack didn’t put up much of a fight about her staying. He really is behaving a lot like Locke.
Jack, Sayid, Eloise and Alpert swim into the pond and through an underwater tunnel which leads into the tunnels of what I believe is The Temple. I loved the way the water entrance looked from inside of the tunnel. The hydrogen bomb is massive in size and weight and Jack questions how they are going to move it and Alpert tells him the same way they got it in. Well thanks Richard, that was helpful. Seriously though, just how will they move that bomb to where it needs to be and where will they move it to?
Twos Company, Threes A Crowd
Sawyer and Juliet are being loaded into the sub as Miles, Hurley and Jin watch through binoculars from the jungle. Hurley says, “Don’t worry, its gonna be okay. Sawyer always has a plan right?” No Hurley. Not this time. I don’t think that they noticed that S&J were handcuffed while getting on the sub either. I hope those three are going to be okay.
Sawyer and Juliet are handcuffed to a table in the sub but not within reaching distance. Juliet tells Sawyer and she loves him and he says he loves her right back. They are so awesome together. There is something so real about their relationship. Their joy is marred however, when one more person is being forced off of the island and loaded into the sub. Kate is brought in and handcuffed to the table right in front of Sawyer. Sawyer sits looking dumbfounded and Juliet looks like she would love nothing more than to kill Kate at that moment. Kate just says hey, like she is totally oblivious. The writers are going to keep teasing us with these couples until the very end, but that’s okay. These scenes where Kate keeps getting in the middle of them are meant to pique our curiosity and I find them funny.
Now that we have the events in 1977 covered, lets head off to 2007.
2007
The Return Of Locke
Thirty years later we see Richard sitting on the beach building a ship in a bottle against a beautiful backdrop which makes the ship appear to be sailing. The ship resembles The Black Rock, but I don’t think it means anything. I just wanted to mention the scene because it reminded me of a portrait. It was a beautiful scene. His ship building is interrupted by the return of John Locke who walks into camp carrying a boar and announcing that dinner is served. He sure does know how to make an entrance.

Locke immediately takes charge and tells Alpert that they have an errand to run and it must be done immediately. Richard stares at Locke as if he can’t quite understand him.
Locke – What’s wrong?
Richard – There’s something different about you.
Locke – I have a purpose now.
Yah! I was ecstatic when Locke said this. No longer is he waiting to be told what to do. He knows exactly what to do and is going to waste no time in doing it. As they speak, Richard notices Ben and Jin on the beach and wants to know what he is doing there and Locke responds, “He helped me get back.” When I heard this, a thought struck me that maybe Ben’s purpose on the island this entire time was not to lead the others but to actually kill John in that hotel room so that he could get back to the island. Although Locke was always the chosen one, Ben had a big connection to him and the island needed him just as much as it needed Locke.
While Richard and Locke speak, Sun questions Ben as to whom the man Locke is talking to is.Sun – Who’s that man he’s talking to?Ben – His name is Richard Alpert. He’s a kind of advisor and he has had that job for a very, very long time. The fact that we were told Richard is an advisor really doesn’t tell us much, because I think most people kind of already assumed this. What interests me is the fact that both Juliet and Ben have now stated that Richard has been on the island for a very, very long time. This just reaffirms my beliefs that Richard is from the time of the Statue and the building of The Temple and tunnels. Richard is some sort of an Egyptian god or something. He appears to be the only one of his kind left on the island though.
Ben sits on the beach while Richard and Locke prepare to leave and John invites him to join them.
Locke – Ben, I’d appreciate it if you’d join us.
Ben – What John, don’t you trust me here with my former people? Afraid I’ll stage a coup?
Locke – I’m not afraid of anything you can do anymore Ben.
Ben – In that case, I’d love to come
John – (smiling) Good.
Ben’s statement about staging a coup was my favorite line of the episode. The sarcasm and tone of his voice made me laugh out loud. I also love that Locke seems to have no real need for Ben anymore.
Tell Me What To Do One More Time
The three of them head out leaving Sun behind with the promise that if there is a way to bring Jin and their people back, he will find it. While trekking through the jungle, Locke tells Richard that he wants to go and see Jacob when he is finished with his errand, but it is clear that Richard doesn’t like the idea. Locke, having a purpose now informs Richard that he is the leader and Richard will take him to Jacob. Well alrighty then Locke. You got it! Locke stops suddenly and points to the beechcraft where numerous past scenes have taken place, most importantly the scene in which Locke is flashing through time and Alpert informs him that he will have to die.
We watch this scene unfold in front of us again and learn that it was Locke himself who sent Alpert to help him during that time. He sent Alpert to tell himself that he was going to have to die. Trippy stuff man!So had Locke not gone back to the island, Locke would have never gotten the compass that Richard just gave him back. Just how many times has this compass been exchanged back and forth between them now? If anyone has the gumption to figure it out, please let me know. Ben stands there in apparent amazement at the scene unfolding before him.

Ben – Your timing was impeccable John. How did you know when to be here?
Locke – The island told me. Didn’t the island ever tell you things?
Ben – No John and clearly it hasn’t told you where Jacob is or you wouldn’t need Richard to show you! (So there! Na-na, na-na, boo-boo!) Hahahahha!
Locke – You’ve never seen him.
Ben- What?
Locke – Jacob. You’ve never seen him.
Again, I loved this scene simply for the way that Ben made his statement about Jacob. He was such a baby about it. I love Ben.
Locke’s Purpose
After having set his path straight, Locke heads back to camp and tells Alpert that he would like to see Jacob immediately and wants to call a meeting with all of the others in regards to the whereabouts and existence of Jacob. Locke stands before all of the others and announces that he is going to see Jacob to find out who this man is that is telling them all what to do and that he would like all of them to join him in his quest. They all seem more than willing to follow Locke in his pursuit.
As the others, led by Locke trek across the beach, Alpert expresses his worries about Locke causing trouble to Ben. Richard and Ben do not like this idea at all. Ben decides to talk to Locke about Richards concerns in regards to seeing Jacob. Ben tells Locke that he is there to follow him now..
Ben – I’m here to follow you now. So if you need Jacob to help you reunite your people, then I’ll do….
Locke – (interrupting) I’m not interested in reuniting my people.
Ben – (looking shocked) What do you mean? You told Sun…
Locke – I know what I told her but that’s not why we’re going to Jacob.
Ben – Then why are we going to Jacob?
Locke – So I can kill him

Say what? This is huge. I had always thought Locke would save Jacob, not kill him. But why, why would Locke need to kill Jacob? One idea might be that Locke is not Locke (which I believe to be the case), and that he wants to kill Jacob in order to take control of the others and the island. Locke is Smokey and he has found a way out and wants the island all to himself. Keep in mind this is not my set theory, just speculation.
My other thought is that killing Jacob is the way to save Jacob. Depending on how you look at it, Locke’s being killed and resurrected saved him, I don’t know why Locke would want to kill Jacob, but I am hoping this means that we will get to see Jacob again next week in the season finale.
I am also wondering how Ilana and Bram are going to fit into this equation. Will they stop Locke from killing Jacob or help him? I can’t wait until next week. Though sadly, it will be our final Lost season cliffhanger ever.
Random Thoughts
I do not want Jack to change things and I don’t think he will. Otherwise the show would end when he detonates the hydrogen bomb and I don’t think it will take 18 more episodes to get that bomb to blow.
I hate Phil, I hate Phil, I hate Phil, I hate Phil, I hate Phil, I hate Phil, I hate Phil.
Will we get to see Rose, Bernard, Claire or Vincent in the finale?
Best Lines
Sayid – If this works, you might just save us all and if it doesn’t, at least you’ve put us out of our misery.
Jack – This is our destiny.Jack – Well maybe I was wrong.
Richard – I’m starting to think John Locke is going to be trouble.

The Variable - Episode 14
My Weekly ReviewThe Variable - Episode 14
This was one of those episodes that just had it all. Drama, humor, mystery, and many answers. Things are starting to fall into place in this mind blowing story and our Losties are at the brink of learning where their true destinies lie.
As I stated in last weeks review for Some Like It Hoth, seeing Daniel arrive back at the island was a sure clue that he would be the centric character for this weeks episode.

Sacrificing The Children
In the episode's first scene we see Desmond being rushed into an ER with Penny and Charlie running in with him. I really thought that Desmond had not been hit with Ben's bullet. The way he attacked Ben, I figured a jug of milk had saved him. Although I was wrong about this, Desmond is still okay and that is all that matters.
While Des is in surgery Penny is visited by none other than Eloise Hawking. She claims she is there to apologize for Penny's husband becoming a casuality in a conflict bigger than any of us. When Penny asks her if Desmond will be okay, Eloise replies uncertainly, "I don't know. For the first time in a long time, I don't know what's going to happen next."
What confuses me is why Eloise is suddenly unsure of the future and why she would apologize to Penny for Daniel interferring in his life. She herself has done the very same thing. It was she who stopped Desmond from marrying Penny in the first place. Why the seemingly sudden change of heart?

As Eloise is leaving the hospital, Charles Widmore emerges from the shadows to find out if Desmond is okay. Either Widmore never really disliked Desmond at all or he is just happy for his daughter that Des is okay. Next Eloise and Widmore have an interesting conversation about sacrifice.
Eloise - Your daughter is in there. Why don't you go in and say hello?
Widmore - Unfortunately Eloise, my relationship with my daughter is one of the things I had to sacrifice.
Eloise- Sacrifice? Don't you talk to me about sacrifice Charles. I had to send my son back to the island knowing full well...
Widmore - He's my son too, Eloise
Than she lays a hard slap across his face and gets into a cab. The conversation led me to believe that she knew sending her son back to the island would result in her shooting him. It also made me wonder who Penny's mother is. Daniel and Penny are awfully close in age, so either Widmore was sleeping with two women at the same time or Daniel and Penny are brother and sister. It just doesn't make sense that Penny's mother could be someone else. I am going to throw a crazy thought out there. Maybe Pen and Dan are twins and shortly after they were born Charles and Eloise seperated. For some unknown reason, Charles took Penny with him and Eloise took Daniel. It's not too far fetched when you think about it.
Eloise and Hawking are also not the only two that have sacrificed their own children at some point. Ben sacrificed Alex's life. Sun sacrificed leaving her daughter behind to find her husband. Claire seems to have sacrificed Aaron for the sake of the island. Sacrifice has played a role on Lost many times and not just when it comes to the children.
I Can Make Time

Not only is Daniel a physicist, he is also a musician. A flashback shows us Daniel around age 12 I would guess, expertly playing the piano when his mom approaches him. Eloise gently tries to persuade Dan away from the piano and concentrate more on his studies. She explains to him what it means to have a destiny and that it is her "job" to keep him on his path, that his gift is his mind and he needs to concentrate more on science and mathematics. There is no time for the piano. But wait a minute, Daniel has a solution to that problem. He can do both. As he states, "I can make time." "If only you could", responds Eloise as she covers the piano keys.
A thought crossed my mind after I re-watched this scene. Do you remember back in season 3 when Charlie needed to turn off the jammer? Bonnie had told Charlie that the keypad was programmed by a musician. Could Daniel have been the musician that programmed it? Other than Charlie, he is the only other musician on the show. The Looking Glass could be the first station that was built by the DI since its function is to communicate with the outside world. Maybe Daniel programmed it before he left the island?
Back on the island in 1977, Daniel wants Miles to take him to see Jack. While off in Ann Arbor Daniel learned that Kate, Jack and Hurley were back on the island and has come back to tell them that they shouldn’t have come back. Daniel informs Jack that his mother was wrong. They don’t belong back on the island at all.
He cuts his meeting short to have Miles take him to meet Mr. Chang. When Pierre pulls up Daniel says, “Right on time”. This would mean he knows exactly what is going to happen and when it is going to happen when it comes to the DI’s moves. He cannot predict the Losties moves because they are the variables and have free will.

Daniel confronts Chang and tries warning him of the impending disaster. Of course convincing Chang is not easy and Daniel finally tells him that he is from the future. Pierre thinks that Miles overheard his conversation about time travel and is now pulling his chain so Daniel tells him that Miles is his son. I really think Pierre wanted to believe Daniel and had Miles not lied about who he was, Chang would have been convinced.
Your mother is an other
Meanwhile back at the barracks, a meeting of the minds is taking place at LaFleur and Juliets’ house. With Phil locked in a closet, Sawyer, Juliet, Jack, Jin and Hurley are deciding what to do next. Sawyer does not want to leave his home but realizes that they have no choice.
Hurley – That dude in the closet. I thought he worked for you. Can’t you just convince him that it was all like a misunderstanding?
Sawyer – I punched the man in the damn face Hugo what am I suppose to say, my fist slipped?

The way Sawyer sees it, they only have two choices. They either commandeer the sub and leave the island or head back to the jungle and start anew. Jin proclaims he is not getting on the sub while Sun is somewhere on the island and Hurley thinks leaving the island would be a wishy-washy decision. Hurley couldn’t be more right. I love when the writers acknowledge the fans thoughts about some of the choices the characters have made.
Daniel unable to convince Chang, arrives at the meeting with Miles to find out if anyone knows how to find the hostiles because his mother is one of them and only she can help them. “Your mother is an other?”, asks Sawyer. I could say that sentence over and over again. It sounds like the name of a rap song. There is a bit of a conflict between Sawyer and Jack over whether to help Daniel because Sawyer doesn’t want to go back where they belong. He belongs with Juliet right where they are and feels if Jack and co. hadn’t come back everything would be fine. Jack on the other hand believes Dan and wants to take him to his mother. The conversation that follows was excellent!
Jack – (looking at Kate) You know where the hostiles are?
Kate – What?
Jack – You and Sawyer took Ben out to them. Can you get us back out there?
Sawyer – Whoa hold on a second. Don’t say a word Kate.
Jack – She can say what she wants to say. Kate you made me promise to never ask What happened to Aaron or why you came back here, but I know that reason, It isn’t here.
Sawyer – Whatever her reason is, helping H.G. Wells here talk to his mommy ain’tGot nothing to do with it. Come with us Freckles.
Juliet – The code for the fence is 141717. You should take Daniel. Its over here for us Anyway.
Kate – Okay lets go.

First of all, Sawyer – What the **** is the matter with you? Okay it’s bad enough that he asked her to come without talking to Juliet about it first but he called her Freckles. Right there in front of Juliet. My girl wasted no time giving Kate the code to the fence. She wasn’t having any of that. Sawyer didn’t even comment or object when Juliet stepped up. I think he knows better. It is quite obvious who wears the pants in that family. I loved this scene and the way Juliet delivered her line. She has had so many great lines throughout the seasons and her delivery is exceptional.
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
Jack, Kate and Daniel head out and Kate immediately states that they need guns and that there are some locked up in the motor pool. Being a janitor Jack has a key so all three of them head to the stash of guns and commence to stealing them. Suddenly, Radzinsky shows up and catches them and bullets begin flying everywhere.

There were a few things that bothered me about this whole scenario. Why did all three of them head to the motor pool? They might as well have held up signs announcing what they were doing. It would have made more sense if Kate had gone alone since she works in the motor pool and her being there would not have looked suspicious. They could have met up at another spot and headed out from there. Duh!
The actual gunfight itself bothered me as well. Both sides were in fairly close range of each other and shooting constantly, yet Daniel, Kate and Jack come out of it unscathed. Oh that’s right Daniel got a little boo boo on his neck. Please. The whole thing was just kind of hokey, especially when Jack shot at the barrel of fuel and it exploded. There was no need to even have a shoot out here if one of them wasn’t going to be shot.
Also, why did Juliet and Sawyer not hear the explosions and the alarm back at their house? Surely they would have heard the commotion and scrambled to get out of there a little quicker.
Back where they belong?
Jack and friends manage to escape and get Faraday to the hostiles, but not before Daniel sees young Charlotte on the swingset. Again with that swing. I mentioned this in my review for Some Like It Hoth as well, but that swingset has been in more scenes than Vincent, Rose and Bernard combined. Do you remember the scene in Terminator when Sarah Connor is watching a young girl and her mom play on the playground by a swing and then a nuclear bomb explodes? The swingset in Dharmaville has an eerie way of reminding me of that scene. I just thought I would share that.

Daniel approaches little Charlotte, who happens to be eating a chocolate bar and Charlotte says, “I’m not suppose to eat chocolate before dinner.” Nice. Daniel then warns Charlotte about leaving the island which is exactly what he told himself he wasn’t going to do when she died. This would make sense since the past cannot be changed. This was a sweet scene and Faraday was great in it.
On the way to the others camp Daniel explains to Jack and Kate , that anyone of them can die because “this” is their present. The writers were practically hitting us over the head with this clue now that I think about it. Of course Daniel was going to die. Jack asks why Eloise was wrong about them returning to the island and Daniel explains the incident to them and the true purpose of the hatch. He explains to them that all of his research has regarding time travel and changing the past has focused on the constants. What he failed to figure into his research was the variables. Our Losties are the variables. People are the variables. “We have free will. We can change our destiny.”
Daniel is going to detonate the hydrogen bomb in order to keep the incident at The Swan from happening. If he does this, the Losties and the rest of the passengers of flight 815 will land in LA where they were suppose to. Hmm. Why would any of them want to do that, except for maybe Jin and Sun. Certainly Kate wouldn’t want to go back when she would most certainly go to jail this time around. And what about Jack? He has pretty much already resigned himself to the fact that he was never leaving the island once he went back so I don’t think that is an issue. Miles isn’t going anywhere and we know Sawyer and Juliet don’t want to leave. Hurley on the other hand has a loving family back home, but he himself said it would be wishy-washy to go back, for the moment anyway. And as Kate herself said, “This is a mistake. He’s talking about erasing everything that’s happened to us Jack. Its insane.”
With Daniel now dead, will Jack and Kate follow through with his plan? Would they even know how to detonate a hydrogen bomb? I don’t believe it will be detonated unless Faraday was somehow able to plant some seed of doubt in Chang’s mind during their conversation, which is most likely what will happen. We know Chang sent Miles and mom away and this is most likely the reason why. He knows what is going to happen and doesn’t want them to get hurt. They will remove people from the island via the sub and I cannot wait to find out who gets on it and who doesn’t.

Jack, Kate and Faraday make it to the others camp when Daniel tells Jack and Kate to wait and he approaches the camp and takes aim at Alpert demanding to see Eloise. Daniel tells Alpert he will shoot if he doesn’t tell him where Eloise is. One…two….BOOM. Daniel looks down and blood oozes from his chest. Pan to Eloise who has just shot her own son. As he lay dying Daniel realizes that his mother knew this would happen all along. She sent him to the island knowing she would kill him when he got there. Whatever is happening on that island must be horribly, horribly bad if a mother is willing to sacrifice her own son to stop it from happening.
Faradays death, although sad was necessary. Faraday’s destiny was not actually to stop the incident but to figure out how to stop it and set the scene so that Jack and Kate could stop it from happening. At least that is one possibility.
Back at the LaFleurs house they are still packing when Radzinsky shows up looking for Sawyer to tell him what just happened. While Radzinsky is ranting, Phil decides to start beating on the closet door and Juliet and LaFleur are taken into custody of the DI. Luckily Hurley, Jin and Miles are outside watching all of this go down. Hopefully they will come up with some sort of solid plan to free L&J from Radzinsky’s clutches.
A Family Affair
As we learn in Daniel’s flashbacks, Widmore and Eloise appear to now be working together to get Daniel back to the island. We learn that Widmore himself contacted Faraday in regards to joining the freighter team and that it truly was him who planted the duplicate of Oceanic 815 on the ocean floor.
We also get to see Eloise interrupt Daniel while playing the piano again only it is about 15 years later. She tells Daniel that he should take Widmore up on his offer. Going to the island may heal him and he can complete his research. Daniel says, “Will it make you proud of me?” and she responds, “Yes Daniel, it will.” I didn’t notice it the first time, but upon re-watching the episode, I noticed that it was very upsetting to Eloise to have to say these things to Daniel because she knew what the outcome would be. What an awful life Daniel Faraday has had to live. Daniel was never allowed to have free will when it came to his life decisions. If his mother hadn’t interfered and pushed so hard, I wonder if he would have become a physicist at all. Maybe this wasn’t Daniel’s true destiny at all since he was not allowed free will. Maybe he himself is the variable as the title suggests.
Random Thoughts
· I will keep saying this until she takes it off. Juliet is wearing a red shirt for the third episode in a row now.
· Juliet rocks

My Weekly Review
My Weekly Review - Some Like It Hoth (Episode 13)
This weeks episode featured Miles Straum. I have been waiting to see his backstory for what seems like ages and was starting to think they were going to pull a Charlotte on his character. I have always been fascinated with the paranormal so Miles and his gift have always intrigued me.

The episode starts by introducing us to a young Miles and his mother who are trying to find an apartment. While mom speaks to the landlord, Miles wanders off to the vending machine only to be side-tracked by the voice of a man coming from apartment 4. (there were a lot of #'s mentioned in this epi). Turns out the voice calling out to Miles is that of a dead man. He screams for his mom and everyone comes running. The way Mile's mom reacted, I got the feeling that this was the first time she had seen Miles perform his gift. I also got the feeling that it was the first time it had ever happened to Miles as well. If that is the case, I wonder why his gift didn't manifest at an earlier age. Or he simply had not been around a dead person until this point in his life.
On the way back from taking Ben to the others, Sawyer calls Miles and tells him the tape from monitor 4 needs to be erased. (#'s mention) As Miles begins to eject the tape, Horace shows up with a package he needs delivered to Radzinsky in grid 334, putting Miles into The Circle of Trust.
The Circle of Trust. So there is a group of DI members harboring a secret from the rest of the DI perhaps covering up their true intentions for being on the island. Horace must really trust Miles to have made him a member of the group so quickly with no initiation at all. Needless to say, Horace's interruption leaves Miles no chance to erase the tape and it is left sticking out of the VCR just waiting for someone to find it.As it turns out, Miles mission is to take a body bag to Radzinsky who is in grid 334 which is Hostile territory. Miles is unaware of this until Radzinsky rolls out the bag and two men carry a dead body out of the jungle to place into the bag. Radzinsky tells Miles to take the body to Horace. Once they are all gone, Miles uses his gift to find out how the man died.
We learn later that the man was killed by a filling being sucked out of his tooth and shooting through his brain because of a high dose of electromagnetism. Remember Desmond's line in the hatch back in season 2? "I don't know about you brotha, but everytime I walk by that wall, my fillings hurt." Alvarez was most certainly working on the Swan at the time of his death.

Back in Dharmaville, Roger Linus discovers that Ben is missing and lashes out at Juliet and Kate then storms out while threatening to tell Horace what has happened. "Well, here we go", states Juliet. Those four words and the way she spoke them really resonate. Their peaceful life is at its end and what lies ahead is the furthest thing from peace. What a foreboding statement that was and now one of my favorite Lost quotes.
Kate sees Roger, whom it would seem has not told Horace about Ben yet, on the swingset (and how many scenes throughout the seasons have now focused on that swingset?) and apparantly feeling sorry for him decides to try and comfort him. Bad decision Kate. Roger is drinking again, fast and hard and she should know there is no communicating with a drunk. Of course Roger becomes suspicious of why Kate would even care and becomes convinced she has something to do with Ben's disappearance. Kate keeps putting herself into situations where she can't help but look suspicious. I know its not intentional, but I really wish she would stop it.

Miles shows up to deliver the body to find Horace on the phone. I guess Mr. Chang found out how the man died and would now like to have the body for himself. Why? Good question. Will we get an answer? Not in this episode. Questions are never answered that quickly on Lost.
So Miles, now on a new mission heads back to his van to find Hurley loading it with ham, cheese and his special garlic-mayo sandwiches. Hurley is delivering sandwiches to workers at the Orchid and that happens to be where Miles is headed so they carpool and become the very first people to ever "go green" in order to stop global warming. Their trip together gave us the best scenes of the night in my opinion. The two of them are great together. I enjoy watching them just as much as I enjoy it when Locke and Ben share a scene. I hope they pair them up more often.

On the way to the Orchid, Hurley notices a foul odor coming from inside of the van and is insistent on pulling over so he can check that his sandwiches have not gone bad. Whew, its not the sandwiches. Just a dead body and thank goodness because bad mayo could have purged half of the DI a bit before their time. During the remainder of the ride, Hurley learns that Miles can talk to dead people and seems thrilled to be able to share his hobby with someone. Turns out that although Hurley and Miles seem to share the same gift, they come about it in totally different ways. Hurley actually sees and converses with the ghosts and Miles claims to just be able to read their last thoughts before death.
This doesn't make any sense to me. There are a couple of things that Miles has done that lead me to believe that Miles either lied to Hurley about how his gift works or over the course of the story, the writers changed their minds about the way in which Miles gift would work.
First of all, when Michael was entering the freighter back in "Meet Kevin Johnson", Miles knew he was lying about who he was. There is no way Miles could have known that. Naomi didn't even know it. After this scene, I had always assumed that Mile's gift included being able to read minds. There was also our first meeting with Miles in which he seemingly talks to a womans grandson. The ghost even responds by knocking on the wall where his stash is hidden. After retrieving the stash, Miles tells the ghost that it can leave now and assures the grandmother that the boys spirit is gone. This scene gave the distinct impression that Miles could talk to ghosts. If he can only read their last thoughts, why was he asking it questions? I don't think Miles was completely truthful with Hurley about his gift but I cant think of a good reason as to why he wouldn't be so I am hoping the writers have a good explanation for what seems to be a change in Miles gift. Or I could just be reading into this too much. No matter what the reason though, Hurley was right when he said that his super power is better.
Hurley and Miles arrive at The Orchid to meet Pierre and hand over the body. The best quotes came out of this episode. I love that when Pierre comes over to meet them and questions Hurley being there, that Hurley just blurts out, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about the body”. He is so naïve and endearing. Even when he does screw up, which is rare really, you can’t help but love the guy. The rest of the conversation was totally quotable. Here is my shortened version…
“I can keep a secret”
“If you think the kitchen is bad”
“I like the kitchen”
“How do you feel about polar bear feces?”
“Breath one word and you’ll be weighing turds”
“Gross”
Pierre Chang walks away
“Dude, that guys a total douche”
“That douche is my dad”
As serious as the situation really was, I couldn’t stop laughing through the whole scene. And it only got better when Hurley started to psycho analyze Miles. Hurley gets Miles to talk about his dad and the conversation started like this,Hurley – How long have you known he was your dad?Miles – Third day we were here I was on line at the cafeteria and my mother got in line behind me. That was my first clue. The way Miles said this line cracked me up.
Mr. Chang suddenly reappears and tells Miles he needs a ride to Radzinsky. During the ride back, Hurley tries to get Miles and Pierre to talk. Hurley begins to make casual conversation with Chang asking about his wife and job when Mr. Chang mentions he has a three month old son named Miles. Hurley tries his best to get Miles talking as well, but he won’t budge.
They arrive at their destination which is surrounded by camofloauged walls and it turns out to be the future home of the Swan. They are in the process of building it and Hurley and Miles sit and watch while the infamous numbers are pounded into the hatch door. Hurley stares at all of this with a look of dread. He is watching the DI build the very thing that brought him to the island in the first place. I thought that scene was very well done.

Once again H & M end up in the van together and Hurley continues to badger Miles about his father. Miles gets so aggravated that he snags that journal Hurley has been writing in all day and begins to read it aloud. Hurley is rewriting The Empire Strikes Back and is going to send it to George Lucas. Hurley compares Luke’s relationship with Vader to Miles and Pierre and you can see his words hit home by the look on Miles face. All of this made me wonder though. Luke lost his hand because of his father. I wonder if Pierre will lose his because of Miles?
On his way back home, Miles happens upon his fathers house and sees his father holding baby Miles and reading him a story. I felt so bad for Miles watching this scene. I also noticed that Pierre didn’t exactly seem like the father that Mile’s mom said he was. He seemed to really love baby Miles. I think Pierre sent Miles and Lara away because he didn’t want anything to happen to them and not because he didn’t want anything to do with them. Pierre gets a call and steps out of his home. He notices Miles and yells to him that he needs him and Miles responds, “You do?” through his tears.

Turns out they are going to pick up new recruits at the sub and Daniel Faraday is the first one out sporting an official Dharma jumpsuit. He’s back. Yah! I am hoping that means he will be at the center of the next episode. I can’t wait to find out what he has been doing for three years.

I know that I left a lot out of this review and I contemplated not even writing this week because my schedule is just so crazy right now, but getting to write a little bit is better than not writing at all.
Random Thoughts
*Miles being kidnapped by Bram. It’s either Ben or a third party. I know a lot of people think it is too late in the game to add a third party, but I disagree. I feel this group may have always been at the party. Although evidence does point to it being Ben’s group.
*Sawyer knocking Phil out. He had it coming! But how in the heck are they going to get out of that one?
*Loved that we got to see Naomi again and how Miles came to be hired by Widmore.
